Virtual Addiction Treatment — Without Putting Your Life on Hold
Our virtual IOP and PHP programs deliver the same evidence-based therapies, group structure, and clinical oversight as our in-person addiction programs — from wherever you are in Massachusetts. Real recovery that fits around your life instead of pausing it.
Truly Virtual, Not Just Phone Calls
HIPAA-compliant video group and individual therapy. Real face-to-face connection with your clinician and peers in recovery — not just a call.
Massachusetts-Licensed Addiction Clinicians
Every clinician licensed to practice in Massachusetts (LADC, LICSW, LMHC, psychiatric providers) — not an out-of-state network of contractors.
Day & Evening Schedules
Virtual IOP sessions run morning, afternoon, and evening — designed so you can keep working, parenting, or attending school while in treatment.
Same-Day Insurance Verification
Most major insurance plans accepted with benefits confirmed often within the hour. Start treatment in days, not weeks.
Virtual IOP & PHP for the Full Range of Substance Use
Our online addiction programs treat adults working through alcohol and drug use — including those managing a substance use disorder alongside a mental health condition. Whether you've been to treatment before or this is your first step, there's a virtual path that fits.
Alcohol Use Disorder
Structured virtual IOP and PHP for alcohol dependence — evidence-based therapy and relapse-prevention skills, delivered from home.
Opioid Use Disorder
Virtual treatment for opioid dependence with medication-assisted treatment (MAT) coordination and ongoing clinical support.
Stimulants (Cocaine & Meth)
Virtual IOP for stimulant use — behavioral therapies and structured support that translate well to a telehealth format.
Benzodiazepines & Sedatives
Clinically supervised virtual care for sedative use, with medical coordination for anyone who needs a supervised taper first.
Poly-Substance Use
Integrated virtual treatment when more than one substance is involved — one coordinated plan rather than fragmented care.
Co-Occurring (Dual Diagnosis)
Integrated virtual care for substance use alongside depression, anxiety, trauma, or bipolar — one team, one plan, one program.
Virtual PHP & Virtual IOP — The Right Intensity for Your Recovery
Your clinical assessment determines whether virtual PHP or virtual IOP fits best. Many clients step down from PHP to IOP as they stabilize — same team, same platform, less intensity over time.
Virtual PHP
Online Partial Hospitalization Program
The most intensive level of virtual outpatient care. Hospital-level structure delivered through HIPAA-compliant video — ideal early in recovery or as a step down from detox or residential care.
Virtual IOP
Online Intensive Outpatient Program
Structured virtual addiction therapy with the schedule flexibility to keep working, parenting, or attending school. Day and evening cohorts available across Massachusetts.
Virtual Outpatient
Standard Online Treatment
Weekly individual virtual therapy, relapse-prevention support, and medication management. The right fit for ongoing maintenance or step-down from a higher level of virtual care.

Virtual IOP isn't a watered-down version of in-person treatment. It's the same evidence-based curriculum, the same group dynamics, and the same licensed clinicians — just delivered through a secure video platform you can join from home, work, or anywhere in Massachusetts.
HIPAA-Compliant Video Platform
Encrypted, healthcare-grade video. Join from your laptop, tablet, or phone — no special software required.
Consistent Schedule
Same days, same times, same group each week. Structure and accountability are part of how virtual IOP works.
Same Group, Each Session
You'll see the same peers and clinicians each session — building the trust and continuity that fuel recovery.
Confidential From Home
Many clients prefer the privacy of treatment from their own space — no parking lots, waiting rooms, or commutes.
Most Major Insurance Plans Accepted
In-network with Massachusetts and national carriers. Free benefits verification — usually within an hour.
Massachusetts-Licensed Clinicians — Not an Out-of-State Network
Our virtual IOP team includes licensed alcohol & drug counselors (LADC), licensed clinical social workers (LICSW), licensed mental health counselors (LMHC), and psychiatric medication providers — all licensed in Massachusetts, all part of the same Rockland Recovery clinical team.
That matters: continuity of care across virtual and in-person formats, real coordination across your treatment team, and the local clinical accountability that comes with a licensed Massachusetts provider — not a national app where you might see a different counselor each session.
What People Want to Know About Virtual Addiction Treatment
What's the difference between virtual IOP and virtual PHP?
Both are virtual outpatient addiction programs — the difference is intensity. Virtual PHP (Partial Hospitalization Program) is the most intensive: typically 5 days per week, 6 hours per day. It's designed for clients who need hospital-level structure but don't require an inpatient stay — often early in recovery or stepping down from detox or residential care.
Virtual IOP (Intensive Outpatient Program) is less time-intensive: typically 3 days per week, 3 hours per session — a better fit if you're working, parenting, or in school. The clinical content is similar; the difference is the dose.
Your clinical assessment will recommend which level is right for you. Many clients start in virtual PHP and step down to virtual IOP as they stabilize.
Do I need to detox before starting virtual IOP?
It depends on what you've been using and how much. Some people are medically stable and can begin virtual IOP or PHP right away. Others need a short period of medically supervised detox first — especially with alcohol, benzodiazepines, or heavy opioid use — because withdrawal from those can be dangerous without medical support.
During your virtual assessment, a licensed clinician will determine whether you need detox first. If you do, we coordinate medically supervised detox at our Massachusetts facilities, then continue your care virtually once you're stable.
Is virtual IOP as effective as in-person for addiction?
Research on virtual intensive outpatient programs consistently shows comparable outcomes to in-person care for substance use treatment. The evidence-based modalities — CBT, DBT, motivational interviewing, relapse prevention — translate well to a virtual format, and group therapy retains its power over secure video.
What matters most is engagement: showing up consistently, doing the work between sessions, and building real connection with your clinical team and peers. Some clients actually engage more openly from the comfort of their own space.
Do you offer medication-assisted treatment (MAT)?
Yes. For opioid and alcohol use disorders, we coordinate medication-assisted treatment alongside your therapy — combining FDA-approved medications with counseling and clinical support, which is the current standard of care. Your psychiatric provider and therapy team work from one coordinated plan.
Will my insurance cover virtual addiction treatment?
Most major insurance plans now cover virtual IOP and virtual PHP at the same level as in-person care, thanks to parity laws and expanded telehealth coverage. We're in-network with Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, Cigna, United Healthcare, Beacon, AllWays, Unicare, MVP, Priority Health, CDPHP, and other major Massachusetts carriers.
Call us or submit a verification form — we'll confirm your specific coverage and out-of-pocket costs, often within an hour.
Can I keep working or going to school during virtual IOP?
Yes — that's the core reason virtual IOP exists. Our virtual IOP groups run day and evening so you can choose a schedule that fits around work, school, and family. Many employers and schools accommodate treatment schedules under FMLA or similar policies.
Virtual PHP is more time-intensive (5 days × 6 hours), so most clients in PHP take FMLA-style leave or reduced hours. Your admissions counselor can help you understand what protections apply.
Do I need to live in Massachusetts to enroll?
To enroll in our virtual IOP and PHP programs, you generally need to be located in Massachusetts during your treatment sessions. Our clinicians are licensed to practice in Massachusetts, so the program is designed for Massachusetts residents. If you're not sure whether your location qualifies, call us — we'll clarify on the same call.
What if I need in-person treatment or detox?
Rockland Recovery operates outpatient facilities in Braintree, Quincy, Sharon, and Bedford, and coordinates medically supervised detox in Massachusetts. If you need a higher level of care or prefer in-person treatment, you can transition with the same clinical team. Many clients also blend formats — virtual group sessions plus occasional in-person visits.
Recovery that fits your life — not the other way around.
You shouldn't have to choose between work, family, and getting the treatment you need. Virtual IOP makes intensive addiction care accessible wherever you are in Massachusetts — the same evidence-based therapies, the same licensed clinicians, delivered through a secure video platform.
